Museum Interpretation Assistant (Temporary/Part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Museum Interpretation Assistant supports the work of the Interpretation Department with regard to tools and spaces dedicated to the general audience, family audience, and docent programs, including the Greene Family Learning Gallery. This individual represents the Museum during operating hours as a positive front line education presence in the galleries and education spaces with the public and our volunteer docents. Specific duties outlined below.

 

Work Schedule:

Wednesday               9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Thursday                   Noon – 5 p.m.

Friday                        9 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Saturday                    Noon – 5 p.m.

Sunday                       Noon – 5 p.m.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

·       Responsible for maintaining the Greene Family Learning Gallery, making regular visits to the gallery to ensure its tidiness and that all activities are in good working order.

·       Orders supplies and replacement pieces for the Greene Family Learning Gallery and other interpretation spaces.

·       Responsible for tracking attendance in the Greene Family Learning Gallery.

·       Responsible for maintaining and stocking all interpretation spaces/galleries to include reading areas, Closer Look stations, pullout labels, family focused exhibitions that include special activities, and in gallery kiosks and videos.

·       Supports the upkeep of digital tools like the Smartphone app ArtClix.

·       Responsible for connecting docents and school groups on weekday mornings.

o   Welcome docents and make sure all are present

o   Rearrange groups or find staff to help when a docent has an emergency

o   Coordinate with Group Sales on group arrival and make sure all docents are matched with small groups

o   Help with small group creation

o   Pass out tickets to students to keep the process moving quickly

o   Help docents sort out timing when groups are late

·       Responsible for ensuring family tour docent arrives on weekends; give the family tour as needed.

·       Helps establish a positive Museum experience for visitors, docents, students, and teachers through professional and friendly interactions.

·       As needed, assists with other family programming (Toddler Thursdays, Second Sundays, etc.), exhibition openings, Smartbox, Day After Thanksgiving, and Holidays at the High.

·       Other duties may be assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

·       B.A. in art education, museum studies, or art history preferred.
